How Long Does Rhinoplasty Recovery Take?

Medically reviewed by Dr. Hootan Zandifar, MD, FACS — double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Beverly Hills & Santa Monica · 2026-10-16

Quick answer: Most rhinoplasty patients return to work and normal activity in about 1–2 weeks, once the splint comes off and the main bruising and swelling settle. Subtle swelling at the tip refines over months, and the final result emerges gradually over about a year. The visible recovery is short; the full refinement takes patience.

The first two weeks

An external splint is typically worn for about a week. Bruising and swelling around the eyes peak early and largely settle within one to two weeks, after which most people feel comfortable in public and back at work.

Months of subtle refinement

The nose continues to refine as deep swelling resolves — especially at the tip, which is the last area to settle. Most of the swelling is gone within a few months, but the final result matures over roughly a year.

What speeds a smooth recovery

Following after-care (head elevation, avoiding strenuous activity and trauma, sun protection) helps. Your surgeon gives specific guidance for your case.
